Lifting and Extracting

A simple cut in the timeline means cutting one section in the middle of the clip off. Whe you cut the other clips in the timeline it makes the video shorter. A ripple edit is when you are able to get a little section of the clip and cut it off. You do this by right clicking the mouse in the section that you want to get rid of, then click ripple delete. When you ripple delete, the other clips to the right of the deleted clip move over with the other ones already there. Lifting and extrqacting are two ways to cut a section of the clip from the timeline at one time. To do this, you have to go and follow the procedures the right way. Lifting is when you are able to pick sections up from the clips, while extracting is like deleted things from the clip, in terms of what happens to the other clips in the timeline. This is an example of inserting editting. I decided to use those two clips because I think that they flow together.

Insert01

This is an example of an insert edit. An insert edit places a clip in the other clip without recording over it. To do this, you hold down the Ctrl key and drag clip down into the other clip. I decided to place the 2nd clip where I did because i just did.The difference between an overlay and an insert edit is an insert edit allows you to put a clip into another without recoreding over the original.
You would use an overlay when you want place the clip over the original clip, while you’d use an insert edit when you want to add the clip without recording over the original. In this case the insert edit works better because you do not recored over your original footage..

Overlay 01.

This is an example of an overlay edit. An overlay edit places a clip into the middle of another clip. To do this, you edit you clip to preferd lenght and then insert into original clip. I decided to edit the 2nd clip where I did because i liked how the video flower into the next.
